Luang Prabang, littéralement: "Royal Buddha Image" est la capitale de la province de Luang Prabang dans le centre-nord du Laos. La ville est située au confluent des fleuves Nam Khan et Mekong, au nord de Vientiane. La partie principale de la ville est constituée de quatre routes principales situées sur une péninsule entre les fleuves Nam Khan et Mékong. La ville est bien connue pour ses nombreux temples et monastères bouddhistes. L'un des principaux sites d'intérêt de la ville est une grande colline escarpée sur laquelle se trouve Wat Chom Si. Luang Prabang possède des sites naturels et historiques. Parmi les sites touristiques naturels figurent les chutes de Kuang Si, les cascades de Tat Sae et les grottes de Pak Ou. Phou Si, au centre de la ville, jouit d'une vue imprenable sur la ville et son système fluvial. C'est un lieu prisé pour observer le coucher de soleil sur le Mékong. Le musée du palais royal Haw Kham et le temple Wat Xieng Thong comptent parmi les sites historiques les plus connus. Le vélo de montagne est assez courant, les gens faisant souvent du vélo autour de la ville ou des cascades pour la journée.
